Ventura City Corps in the community

VCC-helping-photoRecently, several VCC youth helped an East Ventura senior citizen move belongings back into her remodeled 50+ year old home.

Over lunch the homeowner shared that she is semi retired but still works as an occupational therapist due to high demand. She told the youth how to follow that career path and how rewarding it has been for her helping others regain and develop their physical function.

Ventura City Corps helping pet adoptions

VCC-pet-adoptionsThe Ventura City Corps kids assisted Pet Rescue agencies on Saturday June 22, 2013 at the Ventura Harbor 1st Felix & Fido “Bring Me Home” Pet Adoption Festival.

The kids were so excited to see many, many dogs & cats find new homes. It was a huge success!!

THRIVES = Together Helping Replenish Inventory for Ventura Educators and Students

Ventura THRIVES School Supply Drive seeking 2013 cash sponsors and Ventura businesses to host boxes for employees and patrons to stuff with school supplies throughout July.  Ventura City Corps hosts the event for all VUSD teachers to shop for free supplies. Over 120 teachers attended the 2012 drive.

$1000 Sponsors receive inclusion in all THRIVES ads, posters, press releases, interviews and the Ventura City Corps website.  A portion of all sponsor dollars will go toward purchasing additional school supplies and a portion enables Ventura City Corps to coordinate the drive.

Kaiser Grant for Cornucopia Foodshare Project

Ventura City Corps received a $20K grant from Kaiser for hiring a garden manager for the Cornucopia Foodshare project.

Kathleen Herriott pictured front left is the new garden manager. She has been volunteering with this project since April.

The Saticoy food pantry has been designated As the recipient for all produce harvested.

Alejandro Cortez, Sadiki Shakor, Jimmy Latham and Tamera Nunnery build and fill raised vegetable beds which will be used to feed those in need in the Ojai Valley.

This is an approved Master Gardener site on Baldwin Road in Ojai.  Robin Graham is the Lead Master Gardener in charge of the project. 4 new Ojai residents are currently enrolled in the Ventura County Master Gardeners class of 38. Ventura City Corps supports multiple Master Gardener projects in Ventura County.
